As 2021 comes to a close, it’s time to decide where to go to close out the past year and cheer in the new one. There are a wide variety of fun and fabulous New Year’s Eve events to attend in Virginia. Some people enjoy glamorous New Year’s Eve celebrations, and others prefer casual gatherings. Whether you want to wear a black tie and sneakers, your fancy flapper dress, or your PJs, here are some unique New Year’s events in Virginia to celebrate the start of 2022.
For the Kids: LuminoCity Festival Holiday Lights at Roer’s Zoofari
While there aren’t many kid-friendly options for the midnight transition to the new year, they can visit the LuminoCity Festival throughout the season at Roer’s Zoofari, a special holiday-themed display of twinkling animal sculptures. Bring the kids through this large outdoor event where the hand-crafted lit sculptures will amaze and delight them. Watch for live animals displays among the glowing Zoofari sculptured animals.
Price: $32 general admission, $22 children aged 3-12, and $5 parking fee. Additional processing charges may apply.
Time and Dates: Nov. 7 through Jan. 2, 2022, 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

New Year’s Eve Celebration Cooking Class
Sit back, watch, and relax as you sip your wine and enjoy this demonstration-style cooking class taught by one of the expert Aprons staff chefs. The chef cooks a delicious meal, answers any questions you have about the recipe and cooking instructions, and you get to sample the finished product. The cooking class is for adults 18 and older, no children please, and guests over 21 receive a glass of wine at most classes.
The New Year’s Eve class menu includes delectable items like ricotta and spinach ravioli with lobster, Hoppin’ John Soup with cornbread, garlic-and-herb-crusted prime rib, and an exquisite champagne-poached pears dessert.
Price: $65 per person.

Suits, Sneakers, & Stilettos New Year’s Eve Ball
The Suits, Sneakers, and Stilettos New Year’s Eve Ball hosted by Social Architects is semi-formal, but men or women can pair sneakers with semi-formal attire. Attendees will dance until they drop at this holiday ball, featuring three rooms of entertainment and six DJs spinning genres, including hip-hop, R&B, Caribbean, and salsa music. Admission includes casino games, showgirls, photo booths, party favors, a live jazz band, and entertainment throughout the evening.
The venue offers 15 separate bars and a movie theater with three showings, popcorn, and snacks. Roaming photographers and a videographer will circulate to record memories of the evening’s festivities. Alternative ticket options include VIP tables for six in the main ballroom and NYE dinner tickets which include a two-hour buffet and two premium drinks.
Price: $50-$400 per person.

New Year’s Eve Holiday Comedy Show
Laugh your way into the new year at this hilarious New Year’s Eve Comedy Show featuring headliners Bo Dacious, who tours with DL Hughley, and Maria Sanchez voted Baltimore’s funniest female comedian. Tickets for the show include a dinner buffet, drink specials, a champagne toast at midnight, and a DJ providing entertainment before and after the comedy show.
Price: $40 per person.
Time and Date: Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, 8 p.m. – Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, 1:30 a.m.
Location: Segar’s Legacy Event Center and Restaurant, 5851 Richmond Highway, Tappahannock.
New Year’s Eve Classy Pajama Party
Village Brauhaus hosts this New Year’s Eve Classy Pajama Party where you can put on your fanciest pajamas and go out to celebrate the New Year. General tickets allow access to the all-night appetizer and dessert buffet plus two free drinks, and the premium VIP upgrade provides an open bar in addition. Dance along to live music until the midnight champagne toast.
Price: General admission $50 per person, premium VIP admission $90 per person.
Time and Date: Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, 9 p.m. – Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, 2 a.m.
Location: Village Brauhaus, 710 King St., Alexandria.
British New Year’s Eve Party
If you’re not sure you can keep your eyes open until midnight, here’s the perfect solution! Join Vanish Farmwoods Brewery for its British New Year’s Eve Party, a British-themed party where the countdown is on British time, 7 p.m. EST. You can ring in the new year and be home and in bed before midnight after attending this clever New Year’s celebration. Festivities include a live British cover band, a DJ from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., food specials, a new beer release, and a champagne toast at 7 p.m. as the ball drops in the U.K.
Vanish Farmwoods Brewery features 20 beers on tap, a variety of house-made ciders, a wine bar, and food trucks.
Price: $10.

Mardi Gras New Years Eve Party
Enjoy authentic New Orleans-style food, drinks, and music at the Mardi Gras New Year’s Eve Party. Feast on unlimited seafood boil and gumbo as you ring in the New Year at the Hyco Manor, and overnight accommodations are available to make this Mardi Gras party invitation even more tempting.
Price: $25 admission, rooms start at $100 and include admission.
