What’s New With The 2022 Palisade?

Hyundai hasn’t announced when the redesigned Palisade will debut, but rumor has it that it’s pegged for sometime in 2022. Here’s what we do know:

  • The Palisades’ impressive safety features will become standard across all trim variants in 2022.
  • Hyundai may redesign the front to match the other models it offers.
  • The dark brown quilted Napa leather option is being discontinued for the 2022 Limited and Calligraphy trims.
  • The SE variant will enter the new model year with blind-spot monitoring as a standard feature.
  • Hands-free tailgate opening will be standard in the Limited and Calligraphy trims. This comes with quick open, auto open, and adjustable height settings.

The above features are in addition to best-in-class feature upgrades included when the Palisade was introduced as an all-new model in 2020. In 2021, the Palisade received an all-new Calligraphy trim. Along with that, more optional packages were introduced.

How Many Variants Of The Palisade Are There?

Four. Hyundai refers to their Palisade variants as trims. The four available trims are SE, SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy. Most of the Palisades’ features come as standard across all variants, especially where safety is concerned.

Does The Palisade Have A Sunroof?

The SEL trim comes with a conventional sunroof as standard, while the top-of-range Limited and Calligraphy trims come with a dual-panel sunroof as a standard feature.

Is the Palisade Selling Well?

Hyundai is one of the best-selling car brands in the United States, with the Palisade ranked No. 1 in midsize SUVs by the US News & World Report. The Palisade became Hyundai’s fourth best-selling model in August 2021, with year-to-date sales amounting to over 56,700 units.

In fact, the auto manufacturer has a hard time keeping up with consumer demand—orders for the Palisade range between 8,000 to 9,000 units per month. However, the production plant in Ulsan, South Korea, exports 6,000 to 7,000 units per month, resulting in a shortfall of around 2,000 units.

How Popular Are Hyundai Cars in the US?

According to GoodCarBadCar.net’s new vehicle sales report, Hyundai-branded vehicles attained 4.93% of the US car market in 2021.  When Hyundai-branded cars were introduced to North American buyers in 1986 with the launch of the Excel model, it became an instant success with 168,882 vehicles sold in its first year. By 2016, the brand sold 768,057 new cars, a record year for Hyundai.

The secret to the car brand’s success lies in the many features included as standard across the model range. Features that are usually only found on high-end luxury SUVs, but at a more affordable price point.

How Much Does A New Palisade Cost?

Hyundai’s recommended retail selling prices for a new Palisade 2021 model start with the SE trim at $33,150 and the SEL trim at $35,500.

The SE comes standard with Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)?, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with wireless connectivity,? and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped), among other features.

With the SEL trim, you get all of the SE’s features plus a power tilt-and-slide sunroof?, eight-way power driver seat?, and proximity key with push-button start.

A moderate jump to $45,390 gives you the Limited trim with dual sunroof?, 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster,? and surround-view monitor (SVM). Add $1,300 to that, and you get all the bells and whistles, including a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel?, 20-inch alloy wheels?, premium front, and rear fascias, and ?quilted leather interior door panels.

Of course, as with competitor SUVs, there are optional upgrade packages available. These include the Convenience and Premium packages, a Trailering Package, and an HTRAC all-wheel-drive option.

How Many Passengers Can The Palisade Take?

The SE comes standard with eight-passenger seating with a second-row bench seat. The SEL variant comes with seven-passenger seating, with the second-row bench seat available as an eight-seater option. The standard for the luxury Limited and Calligraphy trims is seven-passenger seating with second-row captain’s chairs? with armrests.

Is The Palisade A Good Tow Vehicle?

When towing a brake-enabled mobile home or fully laden trailer, the Palisade can haul 5,000 pounds. This is made possible by the SUV’s six-cylinder 3.8-liter engine delivering 291 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 262 pound-feet of torque at 5,200 RPM.

For towing, horsepower is a function of torque and engine speed (RPM) and indicates how much sustained work the car can do. Generally, bigger-displacement engines develop more torque, but smaller engines can spin faster, which increases horsepower output.

In essence, an engine with a mid-range torque peaking between 2,000 and 5,000 RPM will have good passing acceleration. Conversely, a lot of low-end torque is needed for towing proficiency.

Of course, the transmission plays a big part, seeing as this is where the power and torque combination is applied to pull heavy loads. Since the Palisade is automatic, the eight-speed SHIFTRONIC gearbox selects the best combination for fuel economy and power, so all you have to do is drive the car.
