Arlington, Virginia, has famous landmarks, plenty of great shopping, interesting museums, and delicious steakhouses for meat lovers. Here are some of the many places nearby where you can get a great steak.

Medium Rare

At Medium Rare, you can enjoy a straightforward menu with plenty of classic dishes. This place is only about 15 minutes away in Washington, D.C., and it often delivers free meals to people in need. For dinner, try the top sirloin steak with this restaurant’s super-secret sauce or the grilled portobello mushrooms with roasted red pepper sauce. For brunch, you can choose steak and eggs or French toast and sausage with local, artisanal sausage. 

Medium Rare’s Famous Benedict has steak and portobello mushroom hash, a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and fresh-cut fries. For dessert, choose Grandma’s Apple Pie with vanilla bean ice cream, Six Layer Carrot Cake, Double Chocolate Fudge Three Layer Cake, Key Lime Pie, or a hot fudge sundae. Brunch is on weekends from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner is from 5 to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 5 to 11 p.m. on weekends.

Randy’s Prime Seafood & Steaks

Randy’s Prime is about 20 minutes away from Arlington in Vienna, Virginia, and it has an opulent atmosphere with mahogany tables, wood paneling on the walls, and green mohair seats in the booths. For lunch, try the 7- or 10-ounce filet mignon, the 12- or 16-ounce New York strip, or the 16-ounce ribeye. They all come with hand-cut french fries cooked in duck fat. You can also choose an American waygu steak from Snake River Farms. 

The Prime Filet Mignon Salad comes with buttermilk pepper dressing, pickled beets, walnuts, tomatoes, bacon, and blue cheese. Other options include scallops, salmon, sea bass, lobster crab cake with a 5-ounce filet mignon, and raw oysters. 

If you’re really hungry, order the 34-ounce tomahawk ribeye and the Ultimate Sundae for dessert. This hot fudge sundae has peanut butter sauce, caramel, candied peanuts, whipped cream, toffee, pretzel and brownie pieces, almonds, marshmallows, sprinkles, and cherries. This restaurant also has lots of unique cocktails and a wide selection of quality wines. You can visit from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and it closes at 11 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, it’s open from 4 to 11 p.m., and on Sunday, it’s open from 4 to 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended, and valet parking is available.

The Mercury Chophouse

At the Mercury Chophouse, you can enjoy fine dining, live music, a grand piano, and excellent service. It also has a beautiful, panoramic view of Arlington’s Entertainment District and a boardroom with beautiful decor. It’s ideal for private events. For lunch, you can start with Filet Mignon Cigars with sriracha & lime cream, Chophouse Calamari with house-made marinara sauce, or Hill Country Shrimp with avocado, onions, tomato sauce, cilantro, jalapenos, and lime juice. You can also try escargot roasted in garlic butter, jumbo lump crab cakes with lemon butter caper sauce, or jalapeno bacon-wrapped gulf shrimp. 

For dinner, order a beautifully marbled USDA prime steak that’s aged 28-36 days. You can choose an 8- or 12-ounce filet mignon, a 16- or 18-ounce New York Strip, or an 18-ounce bone-in ribeye. The 24-ounce USDA prime porterhouse comes with grilled Gulf shrimp and jalapeno cheddar sausage. Grilled center-cut pork chops and roasted lamb chops are available as well. 

If you’re in the mood for pasta, try the baked macaroni and cheese with lobster or the lobster and cheese ravioli with mushroom cream sauce. After dinner, you can savor a slice of peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream, a Grasshopper with creme de menthe and creme de cocoa, a martini, or a glass of port, dessert wine, or cordial. The Mercury Chophouse is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. 

The Copperwood Tavern 

The Copperwood Tavern combines rustic and modern styles, and it specializes in prime cuts of local game. You can start with fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese; baked brie with apricot compote, apples, grapes, and honey; or fried goat cheese balls with jalapeno honey. The 7-ounce filet mignon is seared in a cast-iron pan with herb butter, bourbon, mushrooms, and green peppercorn sauce. The Tavern Burger has aged sharp cheddar cheese, bacon, and red wine shallot aioli, and the Spicy Avocado Burger comes with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, honey jalapenos, chipotle aioli, and avocado. 

The 32-ounce Shenandoah tomahawk rib steak feeds two people, and it comes with fresh herbs, a cracked pepper and sea salt crust, house-made steak sauce, herb oil, and grilled ciabatta. Other options include braised rabbit, venison, pork chop, and duck breast with poached pear and a port wine reduction. 

For brunch, you can try steak and eggs with potatoes and red wine sauce, Chocolate Chunk Pancakes with whipped cream and powdered sugar, or Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes with ricotta cheese, blueberries, oranges, and honey butter. The patio is dog-friendly, and the Copperwood Tavern is open for lunch on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can visit for dinner from 4 to 10 p.m. on any day, and brunch is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Epic Smokehouse

Epic Smokehouse opened in 2012, and it has a modern atmosphere. The large bar has three big-screen TVs, and you can also eat on the spacious patio. Appetizers include Burnt Ends, twice-smoked seasoned brisket caps tossed in barbecue sauce, and hickory smoked wings with habanero sauce, Thai chili, or barbecue sauce. You can also get house-made, candied bacon. 

For dinner, there’s a 7-ounce filet mignon with mashed potatoes and roasted mushrooms; a Black Angus ribeye; and crab cakes with french fries and Carolina slaw. The Epic Combo for 2 comes with 10 ounces of prime rib, half a rack of ribs, smoked beef brisket, pulled pork, and mashed potatoes. You can visit every day from noon to 9 p.m.
