Whether you’re gearing up for a solo long-distance trek packed with sightseeing or a quick weekend getaway to a nearby town with a loved one, it’s important to prepare before hitting the open road, especially if you drive an electric vehicle. Learn About Charging Options
Different charging stations have their own costs and average charge times. Learning about the various chargers and networks can help you plan a trip that keeps your EV charged while letting you see the sights you want to see. There are three main types of charge levels available at public charging stations:
- Level 1: Level 1 chargers offer 1 kW of power, which means they can take up to 48 hours to charge an EV fully. However, these chargers are also compatible with a high number of car types.
- Level 2: Level 2 chargers are the most common type of charger you can find at public charging stations. They typically offer between 3 and 20 kW and can charge a car from empty to full within 12 hours.
- Level 3: A Level 3 charger, also called a direct current fast charge (DCFC) unit, is the most powerful charger available at public charging stations. They can charge an EV fully within a few hours, but they may not be compatible with older EV or hybrid vehicles.
Plan To Take Your Time
While a gas-powered vehicle might be the best choice for a road trip with set deadlines, like weddings or hotel bookings, an EV is a great choice for a less structured journey. Since charging times might vary at different stations, a laid-back schedule can lower stress and ensure you still see the major sights along the way. For example, you might decide to take an EV on a trip along the California coast, stopping at major cities along the way.
For your journey, choose a few key places to visit. Research the museums or national parks you want to see on your trip to find out when they’re open. That way, you can stop by and visit as long as you want. It’s a good idea to rank the attractions so you can prioritize them. If you end up with extra time, you can visit some of your lower-ranked places.
Add Major City Stops
While several EV charging networks span the entire country, there are more charging stations in large cities than there are in rural areas. Building in a few stops in major metropolitan areas can give you the opportunity to charge your vehicle without going out of your way. Also, larger cities are more likely to have Level 3 chargers, which allow you to charge your EV faster. In smaller towns, you may only have one or two charging units, and they may take all day or night to restore your EV’s power.
Find Charging Stations in Advance and Make a Plan
When most people need to go somewhere, they use navigation systems to give them directions right as they begin driving. However, taking an EV on a road trip requires some planning. It’s essential to map out multiple routes so you can estimate your mileage and identify where charging stations are. Start by creating a Plan A for what route you hope to take, and then create a back-up plan or two to allow for potential delays or detours.
The U.S. Department of Energy has an interactive map of charging stations throughout the United States and Canada. You can filter by location, charger type, connector type, and type of alternative fuel. It’s a great resource for planning your trip or quickly rerouting to a new station.
Choose Hotels With EV Stations
A Level 2 charger can take up to 12 hours to charge an EV to its full range, but if you can find a hotel with one of these chargers, then you can power your car without losing any of your vacation time. Many large hotel chains have partnerships with companies that build and operate charging networks, which means you can usually find at least one charging unit in the parking lot of a larger hotel. Even smaller lodges and motels might have access to a charging station.
Because units can only serve one vehicle at a time, it’s a good idea to find out how busy the charging station usually is before booking your room. You might call the hotel’s front desk to get an idea of whether you’ll have to wait to use the on-site machine. The hotel staff may also know of larger public charging stations close to the hotel.
Build in a Buffer
It might be tempting to create a travel plan where you arrive at a charging station just as your mileage runs out to make the most of your previous charge. However, it’s a good idea to build in a mileage buffer in case your miles don’t stretch as far as you thought they would. While many EVs have a system that recharges the engine during traffic by translating the brake energy into power, it’s not always enough to make up for power lost from idling. Also, traffic accidents or construction might cause you to take a detour that adds miles.
To be prepared, it’s a good idea to schedule your stops within your maximum mileage range. For example, if you see that your car has 300 miles left on it before it needs a charge, consider stopping at an EV station that’s 250 to 270 miles away. That way, you can give yourself more time to find and reach the next station and account for any variations in your actual mileage remaining.

While many visitors plan their tours during the day, some of the monuments are even more spectacular at night when they’re lit up. If you do some of your sightseeing after dark, not only will you avoid much of the daytime crowds, but if you’re there in the summer, you’ll also beat the heat. Take a look at some of the coolest Washington D.C. monuments to see at night.
Jefferson Memorial
The Jefferson Memorial is located on the National Mall’s Tidal Basin, which is a body of water bordered by cherry blossom trees. Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States and authored the first draft of the Declaration of Independence. The memorial honors his many accomplishments throughout his life.
When you visit the Jefferson Memorial, you’ll see a white-columned structure and a 19-foot bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson. The statue depicts Jefferson standing facing the White House, ready to welcome his many visitors. The walls of the memorial feature words and phrases from many of his texts, so you can take some time to read them. The memorial stays open 24 hours a day and is even more beautiful when it’s lit up at night.
Lincoln Memorial
The Lincoln Memorial sits on the western end of the Memorial Mall. It stays open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. This monument towers over the Reflecting Pool and honors President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president. This massive memorial is 190 feet long and 120 feet wide. The Colorado Yule marble construction sits 99 feet tall, and inside the chamber, the statue of Lincoln was sculpted by Daniel Chester French. Lincoln is seated facing the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. The inside walls of the memorial are engraved with the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address.
The memorial features recessed lighting to keep the monument lit at night and to make sure that each feature of the statue stays visible even after the sun goes down. It’s one of the best monuments to see at night.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. This controversial war took the lives of over 58,000 Americans, and the memorial wall lists all of them. It’s the most visited memorial on the National Mall, with over five million people stopping by every year. The monument stays open 24 hours a day, with just the right amount of light at night to make it feel even more special.
The Vietnam Memorial also features the Three Servicemen statue, the In Memory plaque, the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, and a flagpole with an etching of the five military branches that were active at the time of the war. The wall was dedicated on Veterans Day in 1982 and serves as a way never to forget the thousands of people who sacrificed their lives during the war.
World War II Memorial
The World War II Memorial honors the many Americans who served in World War II, those who sacrificed their lives, and the victory they achieved. This memorial first opened in 2004 on Memorial Day weekend. It was designed by Friedrich St. Florian, who was the chief of the Rhode Island School of Design. The memorial’s design divides it into two sides, the north and south, representing the relationship between the battlefront and the home front.
This memorial is particularly beautiful at night, complemented by the evening lights. The best time to visit is at twilight, so you have the opportunity to see the memorial come to life as the sun goes down and the lights come on.
The Washington Monument
Unlike many other memorials, the Washington Monument doesn’t stay open 24 hours a day, but it’s open until 5 p.m. during the winter so you can see it after dark. This monument was built to honor George Washington and was completed and opened in 1884. It was once the tallest building in the world, standing over 555 feet, and it’s still the tallest predominantly stone structure. The Washington Monument sits in the center of the National Mall between the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol.
You’ll need a ticket to go to the top of the Washington Monument, but you can see it from almost anywhere in the city. It lights up every night, making it even more spectacular no matter how close or far away from it you are.
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial sits in downtown Washington D.C. in West Potomac Park. It honors and celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr., a leader in the civil rights movement. Dr. King fought tirelessly for racial equality, the oppressed, and the working class. The monument depicts Dr. King emerging from a mountain with deference to his “I Have a Dream” speech, where he talks about how we are able to hew out of the mountain of despair.
The monument features several of Dr. King’s quotes engraved on the statue and the south and north walls. The quotes carved into the walls are illuminated in a way that makes it feel like a sacred place. When you visit at night, you can experience the memorial in your own time without all the crowds. The lighting at this monument after dark creates an even more unique experience. There’s enough of it that you can still read all the quotes, but the soft illumination makes an amazing impact on the memorial.

What Are the Hyundai Bluelink Packages?
Bluelink is a platform that allows for the easy exchange of crucial information between you and your vehicle. It involves an artificial intelligence-based technology with an embedded SIM card and a 24/7 call center that improves safety, security, and convenience. Bluelink offers three different packages to customers, and they are as follows:
Connected Care
The Connected Care package is all about vehicle health, scheduled service, and roadside assistance. You can get monthly reports on your vehicle’s condition, including diagnostic alerts on any potential repair or service issues. Connected Care pays off through convenience and better savings, letting you spot issues and take care of them early or get roadside assistance for less.
Guidance
Frequent travelers, local guides, and traveling enthusiasts will love the Guidance package. Using the MyHyundai App or Google apps, you can save favorite locations like local restaurants, hangouts, and parking places. It all gets sent to your MyHyundai profile, accessible online and from your Hyundai vehicle at any time. You can also use Guidance services for voice command destination navigation searches of specific locations or categories, which will automatically set up the route for you.
Remote
The Remote package provides engine start and climate control features, giving you long-distance control. Cool down your vehicle five minutes before you get inside, or warm it up in the winter. If someone forgets something in the car, let them go back while you unlock the doors, re-locking as soon as they’re finished. Like the Guidance package services, you can use them with your Hyundai vehicle’s infotainment system or your MyHyundai App.
Most new Hyundai models come with a three-year trial of Connected Care services. The trim level and model will determine if you can add other service trials. After the trial period, each bundle is available for $99 per year or $9.90 per month.
How To Connect Your Hyundai to Bluelink
Go inside your vehicle, start the engine or turn the key on, and then select Bluelink settings on the menu. From there, choose Service Activation, and you should receive the necessary code. Enter that code in your Bluelink account, and you’ll be set. That’s all it takes. The only thing that might take a minute is registering since it’s your opportunity to choose whether you want additional services and set up important customer service details.
How to Register Your Hyundai With Bluelink
Before you connect your Hyundai to Bluelink, you must make sure you have one of the three services on record with a MyHyundai and Bluelink account. Simply create an account there and register your vehicle using the following steps.
- Click register at the Hyundai owner’s portal.
- Enter your name, email address, secure password, and zip code.
- Select Add a Hyundai You Own.
- Enter your vehicle’s identification number.
- Enter details about its total mileage, condition, and other circumstances.
From that point, you enter the information for your preferred dealership for Hyundai service. This would usually be the same place from where you bought your Hyundai. Select Register; from there, you’ll just need to set up Bluelink. There’s a Wave Enrollment button in your MyHyundai account, so click on that to choose whether to create a Bluelink account or opt out of the service.
Once you create a Bluelink account, you’ll enter the four-digit pin sent to your email, choose your desired Bluelink package, and click next. The free trial available with your new Hyundai should be automatically selected. Enter your payment information, review package choices and other details, and click to confirm.
After that, all you need to do is download the app on your smartphone and sign in with your newly formed Bluelink account. Take advantage of its features and explore Woodbridge fully with a Bluelink-equipped Hyundai.
What’s a Hyundai Driving Score?
Available with any of the three packages, a Hyundai Driving Score is an additional Bluelink service that helps track key details of your driving so you can drive more safely and efficiently. In some cases, the scores from this service can earn safe driving discounts from your insurance company. You must drive at least 20 miles per week for two weeks to create sufficient data, and from there, you can get a Driving Score every week.
Why Isn’t My Hyundai Remote Start Working?
There are a few reasons you may need to troubleshoot remote start issues, aside from interrupted cell phone reception. For the Bluelink Remote Start function to work, the car’s doors must be locked, with the security system armed and the gear in park. It must also have been less than four days since your Hyundai was last turned off.
Which Hyundai Models Come With Hyundai Bluelink?
You’ll find Bluelink services on most Hyundai models going back to 2017 and even some as far back as 2013. The only exceptions are the 2017 Accent, the 2013 Elantra, and the 2013 Tucson. It’s easy to purchase more coverage when your trial runs out, so there’s no real expiration to how long you can use Bluelink features.

Additionally, the Santa Fe model has plug-in hybrid and hybrid trims for drivers who want alternative fuel options. Like the Kona, the Palisade is compatible with plug-in hybrid and hybrid engines but offers five trim levels to give drivers plenty of options. Choose from trims like the rugged XRT, luxurious Limited, or premium Calligraphy.
Performance: 2023 Kona vs. Santa Fe vs. Palisade
As a smaller SUV, the 2023 Hyundai Kona gets an impressive average of 32 mpg across all trims. The SE and SEL get 30 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, while the N Line and Limited get 29 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The Kona SE and SEL have a 2.0-liter MPI four-cylinder engine that generates 147 horsepower. The more-powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder N Line and Limited’s engine generates 195 horsepower. For 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque, choose the N for its 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine.
The gas Santa Fe trims are a little less efficient because of the trim’s larger size. The lower levels average 26 mpg, while the higher levels average 25 mpg. Drivers who want a more efficient Santa Fe might opt for a hybrid or plug-in hybrid trim. Both plug-in hybrid trims offer an average of 33 mpg and a 30-mile all-electric range while generating 261 horsepower using gas and electric power. Even more efficient are the hybrid trims, which provide an average of anywhere from 32 to 34 mpg.
All Palisade trim levels get an average of 22 mpg, which is expected with such a large SUV. You also get a lot of power in exchange for the relatively low fuel efficiency, as the 3.8-liter GDI V-6 engine generates 291 horsepower.
Exterior: 2023 Kona vs. Santa Fe vs. Palisade
All three models have the standard SUV look including a tall, boxy frame and greater ground clearance than a car. Exterior features for each model widely depend on which trim you get. For instance, the Santa Fe XRT has a black front grille while the Limited has a chrome front grille. Two-tone door garnish is standard with the Palisade SE and SEL, while the XRT has a unique black door garnish.
Additionally, the Santa Fe and Palisade XRT trims come with roof rails and a hands-free smart liftgate that make it easy for you to pack for your off-roading adventures. These features also create a more rugged look that matches the XRT’s ability to conquer various terrains.
Interior: 2023 Kona vs. Santa Fe vs. Palisade
The 2023 Kona is a smaller SUV that can comfortably hold five thanks to the cloth, N-Line, and leather-trimmed seats available across different trims. The 2023 Santa Fe also seats five and comes with comfort features like heated front seats on the gas SEL trim and quilted premium Nappa leather trimming on the gas Calligraphy trim. For maximum passenger seating, consider the 2023 Palisade. For instance, eight-way power driver seats are standard among many of the more advanced trim levels for the Kona, Santa Fe, and Palisade. The touch screens on the basic Konas measure 8 inches, while the Palisade offers 12.3-inch touch screens on its most basic trim levels. Conventional sunroofs are available on some of the Kona and Palisade trims, while dual panel sunroofs are exclusive to some of the Palisade trims and panoramic sunroofs are exclusive to the Santa Fe trims.

The Ball-Sellers House
Constructed in the 1750s, the Ball-Sellers House is the oldest structure in all of Arlington County. Farmer John Ball constructed the home, which went on to house three generations of the Carlin family. One of these relatives includes William Carlin, who served as a tailor for George and Martha Washington. Marian Sellers, the home’s last private owner, donated the property to the Arlington Historical Society in 1975. It has since been restored to its colonial-era condition. Free tours of the home and grounds are available during its limited operating season.

Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington

Robinson, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a worthwhile visit for the structure alone.

Almost every manufacturer has declared an intention to shift their lineups entirely to electric vehicles and/or hybrid electric vehicles. Hyundai is set to lead the pack in this effort, always striving for a sustainable future. We’ll cover the fruits of those efforts here.
A New Engine Core Type for a New Tomorrow
This new age of innovation and discovery is called The Fourth Industrial Revolution. It’s a revolution that’ll transform our fossil fuel-centered world into a more sustainable, more environmentally friendly one. Hyundai seeks a new age of “Progress for Humanity,” envisioning a more interconnected and mobile world than ever existed. To this end, the company has designed a revolutionary new electric vehicle (EV) fuel-cell technology. These new fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) will be powered by a 5.64 kilogram, ix35 hydrogen fuel cell boasting an output of 100 kilowatts.
With its amazing new 24 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, this cell can take a vehicle nearly 600 miles on a single tank and charge. Just to bring this into perspective, the average EV today can travel less than half that, around 234 miles on a single charge. Even hybrids, with their gas-engine components, only make it an average of 300 miles before the tank and battery run dry. Imagine a world where that kind of distance can be traveled for under $12. That’s more than the cost of 5.62 kilograms of hydrogen.
A driver must spend an average of $76 to make the same trip in a purely gas-driven vehicle that gets 30 mpg. Making it possible to drive 600 miles for around one-sixth the cost with no fossil fuel emissions — that’s how you kick off an automotive industrial revolution.

The Hyundai IONIQ
The Hyundai IONIQ has wowed the automotive community ever since its debut appearance in 2016. Its three-core, one-body configuration was revolutionary back then, but the IONIQ is even more radical now. The electric version of the 2023 IONIQ 5 core will take drivers 266 miles on a single charge. That is an extremely notable driving range for an EV within the IONIQ’s price range. This is an exceptionally configurable vehicle.
It’s available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and one of two battery cores. The first battery core contains a 58 kWh unit, while the second contains a 77.4 kWh version. The 58 kWh rear-wheel version produces 168 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while its larger counterpart generates 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque with all-wheel drive. The increase in power and range is more than worth the meager price increase.
The Kona All-Electric
The Kona is one of the most popular vehicles in Hyundai’s lineup. Its fully electric version will be available with two different battery cores. The longer ranged 64 kWh version will soon take drivers 292 miles on a single charge. The 2023 version makes it 258 miles per charge. The all-electric core makes the new Kona capable of making the run from zero to 60 in a respectable 6.4 seconds. The Kona is an ideal entry-level electric vehicle, coming in at a more than affordable price. This EV is available for less than $40,000.
The Kona EV is renowned for its safety. The combination of lane-keeping, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver monitoring, and passenger alert technologies make it worthy of that reputation. The adaptive cruise control system on the Limited trim level makes this Kona an even safer purchasing proposition.
The New NEXO
The new second-generation FCEV is soon to arrive. The tech in the new Hyundai NEXO will be nearly at pace with the impressive efficiency of the next-generation ix35 core. It’ll have an estimated range per tank and charge of 497 miles. This SUV is set to sport an incredibly responsive autonomous driving system that will leave its owners captivated. The all-new NEXO is Hyundai’s flagship vehicle of the future.
The 2023 version of the NEXO has a more than respectable driving range per charge, ranking in at 380 miles. Though not quite the NEXO that we’ll see in the future, this is still well above the EV range average we mentioned in the first section.
The 2023 NEXO comes with a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a grand 12.3-inch infotainment system. Many EVs offer a wireless charging unit as an option, but the 2023 NEXO has it as a standard feature. Its remote parking system puts it ahead of the curve in terms of parking lot maneuvering safety. A person might miss something blocked by a vehicle’s blind spots when parking, but the NEXO’s remote parking system has no blind spots. It’ll always stop if it detects a vehicle or pedestrian in its intended path.

National Postal Museum
Fun for kids and adults alike, the National Postal Museum takes you on a journey through the history of the United States postal system. Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens
Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens is just five miles from downtown Washington, D.C. Guests can explore the 25 acres of gardens, including 13 acres of formal gardens in bloom, for free. Although the original resident, Marjorie Post, designed the garden to bloom in the spring and fall, it now has plants that delight visitors throughout the year. Stroll through the greenhouse to see vibrant orchids, and walk around the Japanese garden to feel a sense of peace and serenity. No matter when you visit, there’s sure to be something in bloom.
If you want to tour the estate, there is a fee, but it’s well worth it. The home features artwork and furniture from around the world. There are numerous rooms in the large mansion, which a tour guide will take you through, showing you all the splendid artifacts collected by the estate’s owner.
Dumbarton Oaks
Founders Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss curated the collection of Byzantine and Pre-Columbian art that you can see when you visit Dumbarton Oaks . It would be best if you allowed yourself plenty of time to visit this free museum. It houses over 1,200 Byzantine works and collections from 30 ancient American cultures. This expansive collection is sure to impress, as it’s a culmination of pieces accumulated over decades. The couple began collecting them in the early 1900s and continued to do so throughout their lives.
