A sleek and classy sedan, the Elantra has a lot to offer drivers of all types. Its eye-catching appeal is just one of the things to love about driving this sophisticated sedan. You’ll also appreciate the variety of options available when creating your perfect Hyundai Elantra. One thing you’ll have to decide is whether to go with a gas-powered model or a hybrid version. If you’re in the Woodbridge, Virginia, area, our team at Koons Woodbridge Hyundai is here to help. Check out this gas versus hybrid breakdown to help you choose which Elantra model is right for you.

Trims

Gas versions of the Hyundai Elantra are the SE, SEL, Limited, and N Line. Starting at the base trim level, you’ll find exceptional standard features. These include LED daytime running lights, a black front grille, and dual fold-away power bodycolor side mirrors. By upgrading to the SEL trim, you’ll also get a hands-free smart trunk release, while jumping to the Limited trim level adds LED headlights and taillights, a dark chrome grille, and chrome window trim. At the N Line trim level, you’ll easily recognize your ride with its special badging and exclusive styling.

Hybrid Elantra models are the Blue and the Limited. Even with the base model of this hybrid Hyundai, you’ll find plenty of standard exterior features that make your ride stand out from the crowd. The Blue trim has LED daytime running lights, a black front grille, black window trim, bodycolor door handles, heated side mirrors, solar glass, and a hands-free smart trunk release. Opt for the higher Limited trim if you want LED headlights, LED taillights, a dark chrome front grille, chrome window trim, and turn signal indicators in the side mirrors.

Engine

The gas-powered engines for Hyundai Elantra models are quick and quiet, and you’ll enjoy driving any of the trims in this lineup. All but the N line trim come equipped with the same 2.0L four-cylinder engine. It delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque and combines with a smooth-shifting transmission to give you all the power and control you need to get where you’re going. If you decide the N Line is the model for you, then you’ll discover the power of its 1.6L four-cylinder turbo engine, which generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

Under the hood, the hybrid trim levels of the Elantra are basically identical, with the same engines, batteries, and transmissions doing all the hard work. Both models have a 1.6L inline four-cylinder hybrid engine that pairs with a 32 kW electric motor and a 240-volt lithium-ion battery. This combination brings you an impressive 139 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. This setup, along with the six-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission, makes for a comfortable ride no matter where the road takes you.

Performance

Although a hybrid model will always beat a gas-powered engine in a competition for the best mpg, the Elantra gets great marks even as a gas-powered sedan. The base trim level gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg in the city and a whopping 43 mpg out on the highway. In higher trim levels, you can still get up to 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. You’ll feel stable and steady as you drive thanks to the standard 15-inch alloy wheels, but 16-, 17-, and 18-inch wheels are standard or available for upper trim levels.

If you’re interested in a vehicle that rarely needs to refuel and allows you to go farther on a single tank, then an Elantra hybrid model may be for you. In the Blue trim, you can expect an EPA-estimated 53 mpg in the city and 56 mpg when cruising on the highway. As for the Limited trim, you’ll get up to 49 mpg in the city, increasing to 52 mpg when you’re out on the highway. If you opt for the lower trim, you’ll have 16-inch wheels equipped, while the Limited model comes with 17-inch wheels.

Interior

You’re sure to enjoy your drive more when you’re behind the wheel of a Hyundai Elantra, as every trim level offers features designed with you, the driver, in mind. Gas Elantra trims come with many standard comfort-enhancing amenities that will help you stay connected and entertained. These features include an 8-inch audio touch-screen display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD radio, and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition.

Hybrid trim levels also offer plenty of features to help make your drive more enjoyable. Standard in the base hybrid trim are features like premium cloth seating, heated front seats, remote keyless entry with an alarm, push-button start, and illuminated vanity mirrors. Upgrading to the Limited model gets you a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a wireless charging device, a Bose audio system with eight speakers, and ventilated front seats.

Safety

Safety is important no matter which car you drive. That’s why you’ll find many safety features on every Elantra — gas or hybrid. Some driver-assist technologies that carry over between powertrain types are forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision monitoring, rear cross-traffic collision alerts, lane-keep assist, lane following assist, and high beam assist. All models also have a driver attention warning that can warn you if it senses you’re getting drowsy or inattentive.

Some of the safety features only found in the higher trim levels include parking distance warning, highway drive assist, and parking collision avoidance assist. Airbags are strategically placed throughout the entire cabin to help cushion you and your passengers in the event of an accident.

Choosing the right Elantra model for you may prove challenging, as each one has something great to offer. If you’re in the Woodbridge, Virginia, area and want to see either the gas Elantra or the hybrid Elantra in person, feel free to stop by Koons Woodbridge Hyundai today. Woodbridge, Virginia, is in an area of Virginia steeped in history. The town was founded in 1731, so people in the area were well settled by the time early American history started making waves. Woodbridge has always been a quiet farming town, but it’s close to major and minor historical sights you shouldn’t miss. Keep reading for Koons Woodbridge Hyundai’s list of the five must-see historical destinations that are worth taking the time to drive to in your new Hyundai.

George Washington’s Distillery

The Distillery is located on George Washington’s Mount Vernon home and farmland and was created at the behest of Washington’s farm manager, James Anderson. Anderson had experience operating a farm and distillery in Scotland and wanted to get back into creating fine whiskey. Washington agreed with his farm manager and ordered the construction of a distillery next to his gristmill on Dogue Creek. The distillery could produce almost 11,000 gallons by the time Washington died in 1799.

The owners have restored the distillery and grist mill to their original state, so they function as they did when Washington was alive. Visitors can tour the site, watch how it makes the whiskey, look at artifacts uncovered on the grounds, and even buy a bottle of hand-crafted whiskey produced with 18th-century distilling methods and techniques.

Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site

Fort Ward is a military site located in Alexandria, Virginia, that provided support to the Union Army during the Civil War. It was built in 1861 as a part of a defense ring to protect Washington, D.C., from attack. After Virginia announced it was leaving the Union, the Union Army quickly occupied the fort and helped the U.S. government retain control of the seven counties that surround the nation’s capital. Fort Ward originally had an earthwork perimeter of 540 yards and placements for 36 guns. These stalwart defenses meant that the Confederates never attacked the fort.

The fort has been restored to its original state and serves as a living history museum. Visitors can enjoy tours of the site, watch people act out living history in period costumes, and learn more about the vital role the fort played in residents’ daily lives. You’ll also learn about the military aspect of the fort, along with the military engineering of the era. It’s estimated that 90% of the original earthwork walls have been preserved.

Rippon Lodge

Rippon Lodge is one of the oldest homes in Prince William County, with its original construction dating back to 1747. Richard Blackburn built the house with his son Thomas and grew crops, including tobacco, wheat, and other commodities destined for export to England. The house changed hands a couple of times until Wade H. and Dessie Ellis purchased it in 1923.

The couple also bought 500 acres of land and renovated the home with the goal of preservation. In 1952, Admiral Blackburn Black, a direct descendant of Richard Blackburn, bought the property, and his daughter eventually sold it to Prince William County for historical preservation.

The lodge is open to visitors from Friday to Monday all year, with tours on offer regularly during operating hours. The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset, but the house closes after the last tour, which begins at 3 p.m. The site aims to act as a living history museum, with actors interpreting the history of the house from its inception in 1747 all the way until its final year as a private residence in 2000. Visitors can walk around the grounds, gardens, and walking trails while enjoying the view of the Potomac River.

Fairfax Station Railroad Museum

The Fairfax Station Railroad Museum highlights the historical importance of the railway to Fairfax and the surrounding region. The original railroad that served the station was known as the Orange and Alexandria Railroad (O&A) and originally transported produce from local farms to nearby cities and Washington, D.C. During the Civil War, the O&A line helped move Union troops to the region and evacuated soldiers wounded in battle.

The railroad station building survived a move during the addition of a second set of railway tracks. It was renamed more than once and operated until 1973. Friends of the Fairfax Station, Inc. bought the station and turned it into its current incarnation as a museum.

The interior of the railroad station has been restored to its original condition and furnished with items and objects from its operating days. Step through to see where the stationmaster ran the station and where his assistant monitored the trains as they came through. Photographs relating to the station cover the walls, and there’s also a functional model railroad for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Freedom House Museum

The Freedom House Museum is housed in a building that was once part of a large operation used for trafficking Black men, women, and children from 1828 until the start of the Civil War in 1861. The museum shows visitors the reality of slavery and the miseries endured by those individuals who were subjected to less-than-human living and working conditions during the 19th century.

The building is located at 1315 Duke Street in Alexandria and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum recommends visitors are at least eight years old due to the sensitive nature of the museum’s contents. It’s open Thursday through Monday, and you should give yourself at least 1.5 hours to get through all the exhibits.

How amazing can a three-row SUV be for a family? If the car is the upcoming 2023 Hyundai Palisade SUV, it can be really impressive. This SUV, which was not too boxy, appeared and swept the globe by storm. The Palisade immediately emerged as one of the market’s trendiest SUVs. The latest design for the 2023 model year adds an incredible level of flair to the three-row SUV segment.

With an elevated cabin, a comfortable ride, modern features, and enough room for the whole family, it’s simple to understand why the Palisade has been a hit for Hyundai. As popular as the Palisade is, it is expected to become even more popular as a result of its revamped design and additional features across all trim levels.

Hyundai’s 2023 Palisade

The biggest SUV from the brand ranges from its value-oriented basic trim to the posh Calligraphy model, which provides the finest impersonation of a Genesis GV80. The Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine that produces 291 horsepower with an eight-speed automated powertrain. Many communication and technology options are standard across the lineup, with premium models receiving amenities like in-dash navigation, a panoramic sunroof, and quilted leather upholstery. The Palisade’s cabin is large and comfortable for the entire family, regardless of trim level.

What’s New in 2023?

The Palisade will receive a redesign for the 2023 model, giving it a more squared-off look. The redesigned wheel designs complement the new style, and some new amenities have been added to the interior. The instrument panel of the Palisade has been overhauled with a higher-resolution 12.0-inch touch screen, dynamic voice recognition, a reworked steering wheel, and new upholstery options. Heated third-row seats, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a massaging driver’s seat are among the new amenities.

The portfolio now includes a rugged-looking XRT variant with blacked-out exterior trim, 20-inch wheels, and other aesthetic touches. The Palisade’s main competition has always been the mechanically comparable Kia Telluride, but that brand model is also getting a facelift this year, so the fight is bound to continue.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The Palisade’s gearbox may be shifted manually using steering-wheel-mounted paddles. When ascending hills, the gearbox changes seamlessly on its own, but there is some hectic shuffling of the gears.

Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option on the Limited, SEL, and SE trim levels, but standard on the Calligraphy. All Palisade models include a trailer pre-wiring, gearbox cooler, and sway control as standard provision. When coupled with the dealer-installed trailer hitch, it can pull up to 5,000 pounds.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

As per the EPA, the front-wheel-drive Palisade gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The Palisade is assessed at 19 city and 24 highway mpg when fitted with all-wheel drive.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The SEL and SE trim levels accommodate eight people, while the Calligraphy and Limited trim levels include second-row captain’s seats that lower passenger capacity to seven. In any case, there is plenty of room for people in all three rows. A button in the second row moves the seat forward, allowing easier access to the third row. The seating arrangement of the 2023 Palisade allows for two persons to occupy the third row. Passengers dislike this row on colder days since the chairs aren’t heated. That ends with the 2023 model, which has heated third-row seats to keep everyone cozy and warm.

The road noise is muffled, but a significant quantity of wind noise enters via the doors. Power-folding second and third-row seats are optional on the SEL but standard on the Calligraphy and Limited. With all seats folding, the cargo room is 86 cubic feet, and the Palisade held 33 carry-on luggage in our tests. Stowage is done with the second row upright and the third row folded.

Connectivity and Infotainment

All models have a 12.0-inch touch screen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connection, and in-dash navigation. There are up to seven USB connections accessible, and you may connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

The Palisade can be remotely locked, unlocked, and started using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa when fitted with Hyundai’s Blue Link app service. Simply input your car key into Apple Wallet. Then, hold your Apple Watch or iPhone near the door handle to unlock it. You can also share a digital key by texting it to compatible phones. This function is compatible with Apple Watch 5 and later, iPhone XR and later, and Galaxy S20 and later, with sharing across phones possible only if the platforms are the same.

Driver Assistance and Safety Features

On higher trim levels, practically every modern safety system may be fitted on top of the base safety equipment. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites for more information on the Palisade’s crash-test results. The following are important safety features:

  • Adaptive cruise control standard with semi-autonomous driving mode.
  • Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance.
  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition.

Using route information from the navigation system, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) with Stop and Go and Curve Control can automatically modify vehicle speed when driving on highways. NSCC only operates on major roadways and select highways, not at interchanges or junctions. NSCC should not be utilized in inclement weather, on winding or slippery roads, in heavy or changing traffic, or if the navigation system is malfunctioning. Note that the driver is still responsible for assessing the speed limit and the distance to the vehicle ahead, directing the vehicle, and slowing or halting to avoid an accident.

Maintenance and Warranty Coverage

Hyundai’s warranty is one of the strongest in the industry, with the initial owner receiving 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage. In addition, the firm now provides free regular maintenance, which outperforms popular competitors such as Toyota.

So that’s the new Hyundai Palisade. It has a rich history and renowned performance, making it one of the most sought-after automobiles in the United States. Have you considered getting yours right away? Learn more about the Hyundai Palisade for sale at Koons Woodbridge Hyundai.

If you don’t have time for a week-long vacation to a far-away destination, you don’t have to sit at home on an upcoming day off of work. Woodbridge, Virginia, is near some fascinating attractions you and your family will want to see. Below, you can read some ideas for day trips from Woodbridge, Virginia.

Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park is a vast landscape of over 200,000 acres of protected land that belongs to the U.S. National Park Service. You can get to Shenandoah from Woodbridge by first hopping onto VA-286 N from VA-123 N. Eventually, you’ll get on I-66 W and take exit 13 to get on VA-55 W. You’ll take VA-55 W all the way to Skyline Drive, where Shenandoah Park will await you with its magnificent and inviting wooded areas, wildflower fields, and waterfalls.

Once you arrive, you’ll have over 500 miles of hiking trails to choose from, so you have plenty of options to explore. Many trails are meant for visitors to complete within a few hours, making it easy to fit at least one or two into your day trip schedule. One of our favorite short hikes is on the Frazier Discovery Trail on Loft Mountain. You can drive to mile 79.5 and begin this 1.3-mile hiking loop. It lets you pass through wooded areas where you’ll encounter diverse plants and animals.

If you want something a bit more challenging, you can take on a hiking trail with a designation of medium-level difficulty. For example, the Rose River Falls trail is nearly 4 miles long. Your hard work won’t go unnoticed, as you’ll arrive at a roaring 67-foot waterfall at the end. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous while at Shenandoah, you can hike up to the park’s highest point, which is at the top of Hawksbill Mountain. You’ll be standing at around 4,000 feet, giving you a breathtaking view of the Linville Gorge Wilderness below.

Charlottesville

Charlottesville is a city rich in history and culture. It’s a little less than a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Woodbridge, and the route to this city is pretty straightforward. Start by hopping on I-95 S and follow the signs for VA-3 W. Then, you can get on VA-20 and take this road to East High Street in Charlottesville. This city is a good central area from which you can begin your adventures around the city.

Interestingly, Charlottesville is Virginia’s only UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s home to fascinating historical sites like the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. You can begin your trip to Charlottesville by exploring the University of Virginia and marveling at the 1,600 acres of well-kept landscapes, beautiful architecture, and sophisticated charm. Then, you can take a guided tour of Monticello, where you can learn about the life and home of the third U.S. president, Thomas Jefferson.

After you take some time to appreciate the history of Charlottesville, you can make your way to the downtown area. Once you find a parking spot, you can check out the various restaurants and craft breweries on foot, as the downtown area is quite walkable. One of our favorite spots is The Alley Light, which is a quaint fine dining restaurant with a speakeasy feel. Here, you can order various cheese, vegetable, and meat plates and boards and sip on various wines and custom cocktails.

Arlington National Cemetery

If you’re looking for an easy drive for your day trip from Woodbridge, consider visiting Arlington National Cemetery. This historic spot is a little more than a 30-minute drive from Woodbridge, and you can get to it by first getting on I-95 N in Lorton from US-1 N. Then, you can follow I-95 N and I-395 to VA-27 N/S Washington Boulevard. Once you take exit 8B from I-395 N, you can continue on South Washington Boulevard until you get to Memorial Avenue.

Once you’re at Arlington National Cemetery, you can see various memorials and grave sites, including the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If you time it right, you can see the ceremonious “changing of the guard” that occurs at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier every half hour or every hour, depending on what time of year you come to visit.

After visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, you can drive over the Theodore Roosevelt bridge. You’ll find other fascinating historical sites on this side of the Potomac River, such as the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, and Ford’s Theater.

Colonial Beach

If you want to spend the day by the water, Colonial Beach is an excellent day trip you can take from Woodbridge. The drive is about an hour and a half, and you can start your journey by following I-95 S and US-1 S to Hope Road. Then, you’ll take Courthouse Road and Brook Road to get on VA-218 E. After turning right onto State Route 605, you’ll follow VA-3 E and VA-205 E to Colonial Avenue. Colonial Avenue will take you to Washington Avenue, where you can find beach parking.

Colonial Beach is a quaint spot between the Potomac River and Monroe Bay. It’s home to several marinas, so you can plan a day full of fun-filled water-based activities, including fishing, boating, swimming, and water-skiing. The beach is pet-friendly from Oct. 1 to March 31, so feel free to bring your pooch with you as long as they stay on a leash. After a long day on the water, you can spend a few hours exploring the small surrounding town before heading back home.

Before you take off on your day trip from Woodbridge, Virginia, we encourage you to visit our dealership at Koons Woodbridge Hyundai. Our service technicians will ensure your current vehicle is up to date on the maintenance it needs so that you can drive off confidently.
